Internal Fixing and Cushioning
Grouping and Bundling: Tightly bundle multiple screws together using stretch film or zip ties to significantly enhance overall rigidity and prevent individual screws from bending.
Independent Support: Use honeycomb cardboard or foam boards inside the carton to create individual slots for each screw, keeping them suspended and protected from compression. For ultra-long screws, consider using EPE pearl cotton or high-density foam as cushioning material to fill voids within the box.
External Packaging and Pallet Selection
Sturdy Outer Cartons: Use five-ply corrugated cartons or sturdier boxes. It is recommended to seal all carton seams with high-strength tape in an "H" or "工" pattern.
Pallet Selection is Key: Pallets are mandatory for export shipments. Paper pallets are a preferred option as they fully comply with European and American quarantine standards, allowing for swift customs clearance without fumigation, and offer excellent load-bearing capacity (some can bear up to 7 tons). If using wooden pallets, ensure they have undergone fumigation or heat treatment according to the destination country's requirements and possess the official certificate, otherwise, the risk of rejection or return exists.
Quarantine Compliance is Prerequisite: As mentioned, using paper pallets or wooden pallets that are compliantly treated and come with an official certificate is crucial for smooth customs clearance, avoiding fines and container rejection due to pest issues.
Professional Labeling and Documentation
Clear Labeling: Prominently display warning labels such as "Long Item", "Fragile", and "This Side Up" on the exterior of the packaging boxes.
Detailed Packing List: Include a detailed packing list inside the box, specifying product name, quantity, weight, origin, etc., to facilitate customs clearance and receiver verification.
Moisture and Rust Prevention for Sea Freight: Due to the high humidity in sea transport environments, it is advisable to wrap all equipment with several layers of plastic wrap, followed by a layer of bubble wrap for cushioning and shock absorption. Apply anti-rust treatment to exposed metal surfaces, such as using preservative-type anti-rust oil, and employ plastic film or other sealing barrier materials for sealed packaging.
Volume Control for Air Freight and Express: International express carriers charge based on either the volumetric weight or the actual weight, whichever is higher. Therefore, while ensuring safety, packaging should be as compact as possible to minimize unnecessary volume.
Avoid Using Untreated Wooden Pallets: This is one of the most common reasons for customs detention and return of goods.
Avoid Internal Movement: The interior of the packaging must be tightly filled, ensuring no movement when shaken, to prevent goods from colliding during transit.
Heavy Items at the Bottom: If packing other items together, place heavy items at the bottom of the box and lighter items on top to maintain a stable center of gravity.
